Day 247

I am in a pretty amazing mood right now!  Had a pretty darn good day at work, had an awesome 45 min chat with Jeremy at the gym before my workout, and then had a perfectly awesome workout!  I could not have asked for a more perfect day.

Let`s start at the start.  I was awake at 5:30 this morning and ready to head out the door by 6:55am.  Jan didn`t come to work today so it was just me and considering that Merv (Jan`s brother) had Jan`s car, he was giving me a ride to the LRT this morning.  I got on the LRT and was starting to get ready to listen to my music, and on came one of our neighbors.  I put the ipod away and him and I chatted the whole way to Churchill.  I almost missed my stop because the conversation was so good lol.

At work, we learned about a few more billing things, and then carried on to go on the phones in the afternoon.  I had 5 calls in total and the first 4 were quick easy ones, and then my last call wound up lasting 25 min.  By the time I ended the call with the customer, I was feeling pretty sorry for him.  I can't go into detail because it is a breach of privacy but, it was sad.  Anyways, I left work at 3:45 after talking with Sara for a few min on my way out the door and then headed home to meet up with Merv at the LRT again.

I went with him to go and pick up his car, drove home myself with a pitstop to Timmie's (mmmm.....Timmie's....) and as I walked through the door, Jan was making supper.  I went upstairs, changed into my workout attire, and by 7 I was on my way to the gym.  Oh have I missed the gym!  I am pretty sure Jeremy had missed me as well considering the fact that I walked in, and instead of going into the front area of the building, he saw me, turned around and came upstairs with me.  I asked him if he was going to his desk and if he wanted company for a few min and he said, of course!

We sat and chitchatted like I said for about 45 min and then I looked at my phone and realized that I should probably get my workout started.  He told me to have a good,. hard workout and we went our own seperate ways.  We also managed to finally set up the two last sessions, 1 of them being on April 9.  I am a little anxious because I have missed training with him terribly!

I was feeling pretty good in the knee today, I had a couple times where I thought that maybe I shouldn't go to the gym because there are certain ways that I will step down on the leg and it triggers a little bit of discomfort in the knee.  It's almost like I feel like I'm going to fall.  But, I headed into the ladies only room because I was extremely anxious to get on that eliptical and see what I would be capable of doing.

I started off at the lowest tension possible for a min and then at 2 min, increased it to a level 2.  I carried on until the 5 min mark and brought it up to a 3.  I carried on for another 2 min and went up once more.  At the 20 min mark I had made my way up to a level 5 and thought, ok, I'm doing fine.  No pain yet.  So, I brought it up one last time to a level 6 and left it there for the remainder of my 30 min.  I wound up burning my 300 calorie total which was pretty good and I would have been able to go longer but as I spent so much time chatting instead of working out, I figured that I should probably head home.

I am still feeling pretty good, my back is really sore as I have not done stretches at all for the last 4 days, but, I do plan to get them finished before I head off to bed.  I am really hoping that I will be able to get a workout in tomorrow after dinner but, there are no guarantees there as I still need to do a little bit of shopping tomorrow evening and pick some things up.  Saturday however, will be another story.  I do plan to do another 2 hour workout, and I hope my body is ready for it because I will be doing strength and cardio as well.  I will have to see how it goes.  :)

Day 244

Today was an interesting day from the get go, until I got off of work that is.  I wound up being late this morning getting out the door, and because I was trying to hurry and get to the car before Jan was late, I wound up slipping on the ice on the side of the house, not once, but twice.  I didn't fall, and as I kept on with the rest of the day, my knee started to feel progressively worse.  I couldn't figure out why it was so sore until I started to come in from the lunch break and I realized then that, maybe, the reason why my knee was so sore was because of the slip this morning.

So, at work, we wound up being able to take a few calls in the afternoon, and we also each had a practise call this morning in class.  It was quite interesting and I did well, and felt almost excited to get on the phones next week.  When I got off, I met Jan at the LRT, came home, and changed into my gym clothes right away.  I thought maybe I could at least do something with low intensity like the bike and that it would be ok.

I was wrong!  It was all fine for about a half an hour and then my knee got to the point that I didn't know if I was actually going to be able to walk.  I pushed myself on to the 45 min mark and had no choice but to get going.  Holy dinah was I ever in pain.  I should have just stayed home and stayed off of my feet today.  However, I wound up doing 182 calories, and I did get to chat with Jeremy for a bit today as well as Francois.

When I got to the gym, Jeremy was at his desk and so I hobbled over and asked him if the bike would irritate my knee much.  He said as long as I didn't do a high intensity and try not to go too fast, that it should be ok.  He then asked me if I wanted to do a session this weekend and I told him that I would let him know what I had planned this weekend and let him know.

As I was leaving, he was standing at the front desk and we talked again for a few min.  I asked him when he wanted me to come in on Saturday and then he realized that he had a family thing to go to and that he wouldn't be able to.  I told him that it was fine and that depending on how it goes for the rest of the week with my knee, I may not be back to the gym.  He then told me that I could still do upper body stuff if I wanted to and to take the dumbells and dance with them here at home. We both started laughing and then he said that I should just come home and take it easy for a couple days.

I also talked to him about more sessions.  I notified him that I was thinking about purchasing some more sessions and asked him if he would like to continue on with me.  He said that of course he would and that he just didn't want to put me in a financial burden.  I assured him that it was fine, that I would be ok and that my main concern was that I get the weight off and that I would make sure to let him know when I would be able to purchase them.

Some people would ask why?  Why would you buy more sessions when you can do it on your own?  The answer is, I thoroughly enjoy going to the sessions, I have alot of fun, and even though I can do it on my own, and have proved it to myself, I really enjoy having that person there pushing me and motivating me to keep going.  We also have alot of fun in the sessions.  We fight like a married couple and wind up making everyone else around us laugh at us.  It's mainly just because it is fun.  No other reason for it.

So anyways, now that I have made it home, and had supper, I am really upset at myself for going to the gym and pushing myself to the point of not being able to go to the gym for a few days.  I don't know how it is going to be in the morning but, I am really hoping that I am able to walk.  I do not, want to miss a day of work because of my own stupidity.

I will not be doing stretches tonight, as the stretches that I have require me to use my knees and since it hurts too much, I guess tonight I will have to rest entirely.  Looks like I will be maintaining the upper body for the week, and very carefully watching what I eat.  Sucks to be me!  LOL

At least I am getting in higher spirits :)

Day 243 - Weigh in

It is a rambling day today.  I am so very excited to share my weigh in and I am also having quite a few mixed feelings today as well.  I was awake at 7am today and even though I had a really messed up sleep (thanks to Jeremy)  I still felt pretty refreshed and anxious to get downstairs and get my weigh in done.

So, I got up, came downstairs and turned on the wii for my weigh in.  With all of my hard work this week, most people know that I was aiming for a 5 lb weight loss.  I wound up weighing in at 198lb.  I lost 2 lbs this week!  YAY!  I am pretty sure that next week will be pretty good as well because I know that it usually takes a day or two to have results and yesterday I burned roughly 725 calories and it was no easy task.  So, I will try and continue to get the gym every day this week again and get an hour at least in each and every time.  And then on Saturday, do another 2 hour workout.

Even though I am doing fairly well with my journey, I am still feeling pretty strange, I guess the word would be.  I am not sad, or confused anymore, but, I am feeling a little on the neutral side.  I am neither upset nor ecstatic.  I am very happy and extremely proud of myself for keeping it up and sticking with it.  Even though I am putting myself through the pain, I figure that it is well worth it in the end.

A few weeks ago, I had purchased a pair of pants from Costco, they are a size 16 and I thought that was what I was in but, apparently I was still in between the 18 and 16.  So, this morning, I decided to try on that pair of pants to see if I could get them done up, or even at least up past my big butt.  LOL

I was able to get them on and do them up!  This was really exciting because I know that I have lost the inches as well as the lbs!    Even though I was able to get them done up, they are still not really at the point where I can actually wear them, so I am stuck in the 18s for now.  I will be asking Jeremy probably next week if we could do the measurements so that I can see how much I have lost since the last measurements.

As I said yesterday, I have a few plans in the making at the moment to change my life even more than it has changed right now.  On my next pay, I plan to buy a few clothes in the size 14 range and also 16's.  This way, when I am in the 16s, I can comfortably wear them when I get there.  I am starting to like this whole clothes shopping experience!  :)

Today I am working at Esso.  I have decided that working 6 days a week, working out 5 or 6 days a week, and trying to get everything I need done crammed into one day off is not working.  So, as of this evening, I will be putting in my two weeks notice.  I know that if I ever need to go back, that I will be able to, but my workload is way to deep right now and the most important thing in my life that is on my list right now is to get this weight off of me.  The more opportunity that I have to do this, the better.

I also plan to start doing a few things from the book that I have read in the last couple of days.  I want to be a better person, and I know that I am getting there, but I also want to have a more positive outlook on life and not let the small things bother me so much.  A new and improved me, and that is what this journey is all about.  I want to have the good life for a change, and the only person that is able to deliver the good life to me, is me!

Day 242

So far the day has been pretty productive.  I was awake at 7am, had a bowl of special K with a sliced banana in it for breakfast, had my shower and was at the gym for 10:15am.  Before I left I received a call from my aunt asking if I wanted to hang out with her today for awhile.  She wanted to go look at a couple of stores and check some stuff out and then we went out for lunch to Fife n Dekel's.  I had the egg salad sandwich special with a ceasar salad and an orange juice and then afterwards we went to some home furnishings store and then to a clothing store called Laura's.  I looked around at some of the clothes and even though it was pretty expensive (compared to what I normally would pay) I saw myself spending quite a bit of money in there if I had it.  It just may be my new favorite store!  :)

I am getting ahead of myself here.  Before I went out with aunty,  wound up going to the gym.  Ya, that's it, that's where I was supposed to be headed in this blog.  Clothing tends to get me off on a rambling rampage lately because I am so excited to finally be able to buy clothes that are smaller.  Anyways, when I got to the gym, I thought it was pretty busy, but as I made my way upstairs to the ladies only room, there were only 3 other girls there and none of them were using the actual machines.  So, I decided to start off on the eliptical once again and for each minute, I increased the tension until I reached a level 10 and then brought it back down to a level 6.  When I hit the 15 min mark, I decided to bump it up to a level 15 and then for each minute I lowered it by a level each time.  I stopped at 30 min and wound up burning 320 calories.

I tried to incorporate a few strength exercises into the workout.  I sat on the bench of one of the pieces of equipment, put the weight on to 45lbs and did 12 reps.  I rested for a couple min and did it again.  I went over to another one that reversed the way that you lifted the weights and I did this 12 times as well.  I was experiencing a little bit of discomfort in the back, so, I figured I would get on the treadmill and have a go at that.

I started off at a 4.5 incline and a 3 speed and then my feet started to bother me so I dropped the incline down to a 0.  I carried on for a half an hour on there in comfort and again at the 15 min mark I started to increase the speed just a little bit each minute.  I wound up getting up to a 3.6 speed on the 0 incline and in total I burned an additional 118 calories.

After I got home from looking around with aunty, I did a few stretches.  I did the 2 different railing stretches that I was taught, and then I got the yoga mat out and did the cross body stretch, the one with my arms above my head with my feet pointed the other way and the hamstring stretch.  I did 15 ab crunches at this point and rolled up the mat.  I wanted to head back to the gym for a little bit longer.  So away I went.

On my return trip to the gym I did 12 trunk rotations, with the 17.5 lb weights on each side, 55 lb weight lifts on the machine that I pull the handles from the side in front of me 10 times, and then reversed it and did it 10 more times the other way and then made my way over to the bikes.  I started off on a level 1 and after 1 min I increased the level to a 14 for a min.  I then went back down to a 1 for a min and then back up to a 13.  I kept alternating this way until I hit 25 min and then I put the level to a 5 and left it there for another 10 min.  Altogether I wound up burning another 207 calories on there and called it quits.  I am now satisfied with my workout today, I am very sore because I have worked muscles that haven't been worked hard for awhile and I am so glad that tomorrow is a rest day.

I have been giving some serious thought to visiting the Chiropractic studio within the gym as well within the last week or so.  As my back has been getting progressively worse, and that I have been told that it can help, from many people, I think that I will soon have to make the choice.  Maybe it will help me out, and I am hoping so.

Tomorrow is weigh in day, and I am anxious to see how my hard work has paid off this week.  I have also been trying pretty hard to keep more of an open mind in the way of positiveness.  I have purchased the book that Jeremy has suggested to me, and I have almost finished reading it.  It is called The Secret and it gives you some exercises to daily to help you on that path of becoming more positive and in return, your life gets easier.  It's very interesting to read and I haven't been able to put it down.  I keep wanting to carry on and finish it off and I am hoping that I will be able to finish it by tomorrow night so that I can start using some of those exercises come Monday.

To finish off this very long blog of the day, I just want to say that the plans that I have in my head for the future and the plans that I have to change my life and attitude will be in full swing pretty soon and I am very excited to see what it will bring me.  :)

Day 241

I am not so sure about this weigh in on Sunday.  I am pretty sure that I am going to be ok for weight lost, I don't think that it will be 5 lbs, but, I am thinking it may be around 2 or 3.  I have been working pretty hard this week, going to the gym every day and if not, still doing the workouts at home.  Not only that, but the eating has been pretty good also.  Yes, I have been eating more at work, but at the same time, it's been more healthy stuff than anything.  I have been trying to eat more fruits, more veggies during the day and I have also been trying to watch the quantity of the food that I have been consuming as well.

I feel that today was a pretty good day, considering the fact that I am still in so much pain in both the feet and the back, shoulders and legs, I still managed to get myself over to the gym for a fantastic workout!  I wound up getting to the gym at about 4:45pm and when I changed my shoes, I knew exactly where I was gonna go.  I headed over tot he ladies only room and jumped on the eliptical.  I didn't really do much in the way of tension because I was pretty sore, so I stayed on a level 1 and went for 40 min.  I burned 320 calories and decided to head over to the bike and try another half hour on there.  Here I decided to change things up a little bit.

I did 3 min on a level 1 and then bumped it up to a level 6.  I carried on for another 5 min and then slowly increased the level until I got to a level 10 every minute.  I then put it back down to a level 1 and then slowly increased it once more until I got to a level 6.  In total, I wound up burning an additional 137 calories.  I figured that since my hour was up and that I did so well, all week in fact, that I should probably come home and have some relax time.

Once I got home, I made supper for Jan and I.  I made fish in egg and bread crumbs, and some mixed veggies.  It was so amazingly good!  I completely love fish, and that is not even an exageration.  After supper, I did my stretches, nothing more, I figured I would take it a little easier tonight because I have huge plans for tomorrow.

I had been doing some thinking earlier in the week about how I was going to lose this 5 lbs.  I figured that considering the fact that I have been working at it pretty hard this week, maybe I could try to do kind of my own "last chance workout" like the biggest loser.  I am hoping to get to bed early tonight, and be at the gym for 8 tomorrow morning.  I plan on doing 30 min on the treadmill, 30 min on the eliptical and 30 min on the bike.  In between each, I am going to incorporate some strength training in there with some trunk rotations, seated rows, and a few others as well.  I am pretty sure that once I finally get home, I will probably have to do the stretching 2 or 3 times during the day.  In which case, I will also try to get some ab crunches, upper and lower, the plank and maybe some pushups in there as well.

I know it sounds like a lot, and I am pretty sure it will be alot, but, if it works the way I want it to, then there is no reason why I can't take it easier on myself for the week and push it to the max once a week.  If I am in so much pain that I can't move on Sunday, then I think we have a problem and I may have to seek phsycological help to discuss my mental way of thinking lol.

Day 240

This morning I did not want to get up to go to work.  I am still kind of sore from the other day's workout and my back has been bothering me quite a bit since, even though I am doing my stretches every night.  Considering the fact that it has been snowing most of the day, I decided that it wouldn't be a good idea to go to the gym.  I just wanted to come home, change into my pj's and curl up in my chair with my blanket, cat and a good book.

I managed to do just that before supper and then I went upstairs, grabbed the laundry basket and carried on to the basement to get the laundry done.  While down there, I did 10 lunges on each leg, grabbed the 5 lbs dumbells and did 24 squats while touching one to the floor and while standing raise it above my head.  I did this with each arm and then did 12 side arm lifts, 12 bicep curls, and then carried on to do 12 more squats bringing the dumbells in front of me in each arm.  I came upstairs and started my baking.

As the washer finished in the basement, I went back downstairs and repeated this whole process and then came upstairs to pull out the yoga mat.  I started off with stretching the legs a little bit, laid down on the mat and reached with my arms and pointed with my toes and then did 25 ab crunches.  I did the cross body twist to the right and repeated the ab crunches.  Repeated the other side and again, ab crunches.  I did the one stretch that I put the right ankle on the left knee and pulled it towards me and then repeated the other side.  One last trip to the basement to get the clothes and a repeat session with the weights and I called it a day.

Even though I didn't get to the gym, I still had a pretty decent workout at home and I am sure that I will probably be a hurting unit tomorrow but, it's no biggie because, I know that I will be able to rest on Sunday!  :)

Tomorrow I am hoping if it is not snowing again, to go to the gym right after work.  If it is, then I will be dropping Jan off at home and carrying on to the gym before supper for my cardio workout.  Sounds good to me!

Day 239

Again, I hmm'ed and haw'ed about wether or not I was going to the gym today.  Yesterdays workout was pretty effective and I was quite tender by the end of the day.  I decided that I would come home and have supper first before attempting the gym.  Once I had settled down and actually relaxed for a bit, I thought, no, I don't want to go.  I am just too sore and I don't feel like it.  I sat for another 15 min and then got thinking about wanting so badly to lose 5 lbs this week and went into the bathroom and thought, ok, I'm going.  I am not going to acheive this goal if I don't do it.  So, I changed my clothes, grabbed the keys from Jan, and away I went.

I got to the gym at about 10 to 7 and headed upstairs.  Jeremy was just finishing up with another trainer while I filled my water bottle so I went over to his desk and talked with him for a few min.  I then went into the ladies only room and got on the eliptical.  I figured that I wanted the best calorie burn in a half hour that I could manage and that was the best way to go.

I wound up burning 200 calories in 20 min, and for my last 10 min, I got on the treadmill and burned another 71 calories.  It wasn't that bad for a half hour workout.  I have still been pretty good with doing the stairs at the LRT stations so I am quite happy with what I did today.

A few months ago, in one of my sessions with Jeremy, he had me do a grateful list and a list of things that I love.  He then told me to buy this book called The Secret and read it.  I have since looked for it and found it in hardcover in the store with a DVD for $30.  So I figured that I would take a look on the kindle tonight and see if I could find it.  I did, and it was only $14.50 so I bought it and started reading it tonight.  I informed Jeremy of this tonight and he was fairly excited that I had actually bought it and told me to let him know what I thought.  The first couple of chapters are so far pretty interesting and I think that it will help me alot in changing alot in the way of my thoughts and the way that I perceive things.  As of Sunday, I will be starting to do the exercises in the book, for now, my main concern is just reading it and seeing what kinds of things I will be asked to do.

Tomorrow after work, I will be heading to the gym straight away as I find that I don't have alot of time in the evenings for anything else once I get back from the gym and not to mention the fact that I don't feel like doing anything either and therefore have no desire to do it.  I have to force myself to get up and go.  It will be a take it easy kind of day, maybe, and probably I will be doing a few strength exercises and the bike for a bit.  I don't think the eliptical is on the agenda for tomorrow as I am starting to really enjoy it but, I have read somewhere that it is good to try and switch things up a little bit to get your body challenged and keeping it guessing what you are going to be doing next.

Now, it is time for me to do my stretches, and only my stretches and then it is off to bed for me.  It is quite late and 5 am comes way too soon when I am up late.  :)
