Day 320

Well, yesterday turned out to be an epic fail for the smoking.  Actually, they say that it's not a fail if you have 1 or 2 smokes in the day.  But, I did manage to go 20 hours before I really wanted a cigarette.  I got a pack, smoked 4 in the day, and then today, wound up throwing out the pack because I couldn't do it.  I have only had about 3 or 4 and even then, I have only been having a couple puffs on each of the ones that I had.

So anyways, I should be ok, because like I said, that last one, really turned me off.  Anyways, I will see how it goes for the rest of the weekend.  Should be fine, with the exeption of cravings but, I will try to deal with that when the time comes.

Off of the smoking bit and onto the weight loss, where this blog is supposed to be heading.  Yesterday I did wind up going to the gym for about 40 min.  I did the eliptical for 15 min burning 130 calories, and then I went over to the treadmill to finish off.

I started on a 2.9 speed and 4.5 incline for a min and then upped the speed to a 4.2 and did a jog for a min.  I alternated this for 5 min and then brought the incline back down to a 0.  I am slowly trying to increase the amount of time that I am able to do a jog on the incline as it burns more calories.  I carried on for 17 min and then hit the cool down button.  I had burned another 150 calories and was feeling pretty darn good.

When I got home, I did my stretches, held the plank for about 25 seconds and called it a day.  I have yet to do my workout today.  I will be going for a walk after supper down to the ravine for an hour and a half, and then I will be coming home to attempt to get the core exercises done and stretches.

Tomorrow being Saturday, I will be attempting to do a 2 hour workout.  Hopefully I am able to do it as I have been attempting to monitor my weight within the week and it has been really weird.  I will have to see how it goes on Sunday for weigh in.

As my back has finally seemed to be getting better as the week has gone by, next week I am going to be pushing myself a little bit harder.  I just want to be good again, and this time I am going to make sure to watch my eating habits a little bit closer.  Not much more to say today, will be posting at some point in the afternoon tomorrow! :)

Day 318

Ok so, it turned out that Monsier Jeremy cancelled on me today.  Once again, he tried to make everyone happy and wound up taking on more of a workload than he was able to manage.  That's ok though because I was still a little bit sore from Monday still and probably wouldn't have been able to manage the session anyways.

I did 8 min on the treadmill before Jeremy wound up cancelling and then I went over to the ladies only room.  I did an additional 5 min on the eliptical and realized that my back was starting to get really sore in the lower area.  I figured I would try maybe the bike.

I wound up lasting even less on the bike.  I lasted for roughly 2 min and went back over to the main area.  I got back on the treadmill and set it on a 2.8 and 2.5 incline.  I went on for about 5 min and then increased the speed to a 3 and the incline to a 4.5.  I went on until I hit 13 min and I had to leave.  By this time I was feeling the middle of the back tighten with the problem in the lower and I had already pushed myself for 5 min longer than I wanted to initially quit.  I left for home and was a little upset with myself.

Today I wound up making a choice that alot of you will probably not believe that I will go through with, but, as of right now, I have been smoke-free for 8 hours.  Last night, I logged on the albertahelps website and signed up.  Today, after I got home from work, I called the hotline when I got home and received my first consultation.

This time I am going to quit.  And I am not going to give in to the temptations that I know will be coming.  And if I am cranky, so be it!  It's part of the process and I have to learn to deal with the cravings.

Tonight, as it is 8:15pm, I will be doing my stretches and then pretty much heading off to bed.  I am pretty tired as I didn't get a really good sleep last night and I should probably get a good night's rest for tomorrow.  I'm going to the gym in the afternoon and quite possibly, I will be going from 1:30 until the time that Jan gets off of work.  I want to keep my mind fairly busy so that I don't think about when I "should've" had a smoke.

So from now on, let this be the start of a new journey once again and this time will be successful!

Day 317

I think today I have finally proven something to myself.  I have finally proven to myself that I will not be taken down without a fight.  I am strong, and more determined than ever to get this life back on track.  Yesterday's episode with my back really took me for a loop.  I maybe should have taken a second night off to recuperate and gather my strength back up, but, I decided before I went to bed last night that from now on, I am not going to take rest until I am finished with my goal.

This morning I crawled out of bed at 6am, not sure what the day was going to bring me.  I knew that I had plans to meet up with a dear friend of mine, Cassandra after work and that I was going to the gym before we were going for coffee.  I didn't count however on the awesome workout that I was able to perform today.

I got to the gym at 1pm, headed up to the ladies only room and was a little bit disappointed because Jeremy had wound up leaving before I was able to get there.  I wanted to talk to him to see when we would be doing our next session.  I opted to start off with the eliptical for a little bit of a warm up and wound up doing that for 8 min and burning 75 calories.  I was feeling pretty good, the back wasn't quite so bad at this point so I wiped down my machine and moved over to the treadmill.

I started off at a 2.5 speed for a min and 0 incline and then decided to move up the speed and do a jog for a min on a 4.2.  I varied back and forth every min between these two for about 15 min and then I decided to try a 4.4 speed a few times.  As I kept on going with the alternating speeds, at one point I decided that I was going to increase the incline to a 2.5.  I wasn't able to continue on at this incline on the jog so I kept it at a 0 for the rest of my time.  I did wind up doing a 2 min jog a couple of times as well so I know that I am starting to get used to it.  Not to mention the fact that I did not hold onto the rails once.  In 52 min I finally ended my hour session at the gym burning an additional 281 calories.

I am very happy that I was able to do the jog so often and for that long.  Hopefully I will be able to continue getting stronger on the treadmill and finally be able to kick some butt!

Once I was heading out of the gym, I wound up running into Jeremy outside.  He asked me how I was doing, noticed that I was dripping wet from my intense workout.  I knew that he was pretty happy and impressed with what I had done after I told him and since I was a little on the rushed side to meet up with Cassandra, I asked him about our next session.  He wanted to do a Saturday session but, I explained that I was busy.  I went back inside and upstairs with him and we agreed on having a session tomorrow at 2pm.  I have a feeling that it will be an interesting session that's for sure.

When I got home from dropping Cassandra off at Clareview, I had my supper and then did 5 different stretches.  I think the core work will have to wait until my back is feeling a bit better and I think that maybe tomorrow or Thursday I will start to do do it once again.  For now, the cardio will have to be enough.

Day 316 - Weigh in

Where to begin?  Hmmm...  Well I guess I can start with Saturday, since that was the last day that I had posted.  Once I got finished with my session I came home and called my Aunt Cher in Devon.  I didn't want to have another boring weekend of just sitting at home with nothing to do, so I asked her if she wanted to come and pick me up, play Canasta as much as she felt like, and stay the night.  So, we got to her place around 5:30pm, had supper and then I told her that we had to go for a walk before we even thought about playing Canasta.

My cousin Stacey came with us so we headed down the block and by the time we reached the end and across the street, Aunty wanted to go home.  So, we all agreed to go around the circle to her house, dropped her off at home and then Stacey and I carried on by ourselves.  At this point, we decided that we would go and visit my brother, his wife and the boys.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I was there. A person doesn't realize how much they miss their loved ones until they go and see them every so often.  I also wanted to go see them so that I could share in the joy of seeing Donovan's medals from Taekwondo, and to let both of them know how extremely proud I was of the both of them.  I love them to pieces and really hope that the next time a tournament comes around that I will be able to go and see them live.  :)

After visiting for about 15 - 20 min, we decided to get going and continue on home so that Aunty would finally be able to kick my behind in cards.  I think we did roughly about an hour walk and it was very good.  I stayed the night, and then Sunday morning, we got up, had a couple more games of Canasta and then I got my ride home.

Once I got home, I really didn't feel like sitting here, so, I asked Jan to prep Daisy for a walk for me with her harness and leash and away we went.  We were gone about roughly an hour and I didn't let her squat half as much as we normally do, because I wanted a walk, not a pee session.  I was about 5 min from home, and called to ask Jan to get Lily ready for the next round.

I stopped for a drink of water, grabbed Lily and headed off in the opposite direction from home towards the ravine with her.  We went down a pretty steep hill, came around the corner and up a bunch of stairs and then came home totalling another 30 min walk.  Again, I didn't let her stop very much and when I got home I decided that I had better have some supper.

When I finished supper, I still felt like I was missing something and that I really did not want to be here.  It was beautiful outside and I thought, well, I'll go for another walk.  This time I went by myself, heading towards the ravine and walked the whole thing, and then finally heading home.  My total walk time yesterday was 3 hours and I was sure feeling it when I got home.

I got home and had to make a couple of phone calls, and then pulled out the yoga mat.  By the time I was ready to do my stretches, my feet had hurt so bad that I could barely walk on them.  I decided that I better get it over and done with and as I went to lay down on the floor it was almost like my back gave out from underneath me.  I hit the floor hard and both my stomach and my back started throbbing.  I just didn't understand how my back and stomach would hurt so much considering the fact that I wasn't really going to fast or going hard but, I think the main issue with my back was because when Jeremy helped me with the stretch on Saturday, somehow because it was a little different in the way that he did it, my back just didn't like or enjoy it.

I went to get back up from the floor and had to attempt it 4 times before I was finally able to get up.  At this point, I decided that I was not going to be doing any stretching and no core exercises.  The best thing for me to do was to go to bed.

This morning I woke up, after a terrible sleep, rolled out of bed, and thought that I would not be going into work.  My foot was so sore I couldn't stand on it so, I got the shoes on, and made my way slowly downstairs.  As I was walking around, my feet started to feel a little better and I decided I would go in to work.  I went into the basement to turn on the wii and do my weigh in, considering I had missed it yesterday.  I had done a check on Saturday and it read that I had gained 3 lbs.  This morning when I stepped on, I thought maybe that I might have gained some more.

Apparently, I had lost again!  I am now down to 184.2!!!  That would be a total weight loss of 80 lbs!  Completely amazing!  I don`t know if it is completely accurate, we will definitely have to make sure to see this next weekend if it proved to be true.  Phase 2 of my journey is almost complete!  I am so excited!  If this is true, my next goal is to lose another 40 lbs.  I am hoping that it will only take until August now that it is getting alot easier to maneuver around.  As I left early from work today, I will not be going to the gym.  I was able to get my stretches done and I will be doing them once more before bed to ensure that I am ok for tomorrow.  I still haven`t heard anything from Jeremy as to when our next session is, I may hear back today, or tomorrow and if I don`t, then I guess I will just have to wait and see.  I won`t bug him about it as I am still pretty sore and not really ready to do a session at this time anyways.  Maybe when I get into the gym tomorrow he will try to set up a session with me.  :)

It is a long one today, but when I am not home and able to get everything written down every day, it winds up to be a little long.  I will probably post tomorrow when I am finished at the gym around 4 pm.

Day 314 - Session

Oh boy, what an incredible workout!  I started off on the treadmill for 8 min and then I walked over to Jeremy's desk, handed him my punch in slip and headed for the washroom before we started.  When I got back upstairs I was handed two 5lb dumbells and had to hold them shoulder height and then raise my arms above my head simultaniously about 15 times with each arm.  After I completed this, I had to do about 12 reverse lunges on each leg and then repeated both exercises 2 more times.

I was then instructed to go down and up the stairs 3 times and then when I got upstairs on the third time, I was able to have a drink and rest for a min and then on to the next set of exercises.  I had to do walking lunges to the TRX ropes while doing bicep curls with the 5lb dumbells, walk back to where we were normally and then he had a mat on the floor for me.  I had to get down on the mat, do 12 pushups, and then down and up the stairs another 3 times.

This time when I got back I had to do the walking lunges again but this time back and forth and then repeated the rest of the exercises.  After I got up the stairs after the third time yet again, I repeated the lunges with bicep curls only to the ropes, walked back normally and finished with the pushups.  I went down and up the stairs 3 times one more time and by the time I got back upstairs Jeremy had set up another little set of exercises to do.

He had a mat set up in front of one of the big ropes and I had to do the plank first, and then with both hands, had to whip the rope for 45 seconds hard, and then finally a three min sprint on the bike on a level 8.  Once again I was asked to go down and up the stairs 3 times and then repeated the plank, rope and bike one more time.  When I was finished there, he had moved the mat once again and asked me to do ab crunches and then finally he helped me with one of the stretches that I normally do by myself.

All in all it went really good, we laughed alot throughout the session and talked alot as well.  I think it is just what I needed to get myself in the right frame of mind to continue on.  With everything that I have been thinking in the last week, and doing in the last week as well, I am very glad for today because it just makes me realize what I am capable of and that I am going to acheive the goals that I have in place.

Tonight I am going to Devon to spend the night with my Aunt Cherilyn.  When I get back tomorrow I will probably not be going to the gym however, I will definitely be going for a walk today and tomorrow.

We have not set up a session for next week yet, however, I am going to guess that probably Tuesday or Wednesday we will be doing a session considering my homework isn't that bad.  I have been instructed to do 3 hours of higher intensity cardio and 5 min of stretches and core daily.  I guess this time I should probably continue on the core everyday regardless.  This way I am able to do everything he asks me to do in our sessions without a probelm.  LOL

Day 313

Today has been a pretty exceptional day considering the week that I have been having.  Pretty much all week I have not wanted to do anything in the way of exercise, and to be quite honest, I haven`t been watching what I have been eating all that good either.  However, this morning I was up at 5:15am to get myself ready for a round at the gym before I went to work.  I figured that I wouldn`t want to do anything when I got home and I was sure right about that.

I left at 7 am with Jan in the morning, walked over to the gym from the LRT and as soon as I got there I headed upstairs to the ladies only room.  It was completely dead in there and I was the only one so I started off doing some weight lifting.  I then went over to the eliptical and did 15 min there burning 80 calories.  From there I went over to the treadmill and did 15 min here but, I did a walk for a min on a 2.6 speed and then bumped up the speed to a 4.4 and did a jog for a min.  I alternated every min with the two and wound up burning 131 calories in another 15 min span.

I decided that I would try to do the bike for the rest of my time and put the tension on a level 4 and carried on for my last 15 min.  I burned another 80 calories here and had to leave to go and get ready for work.  I walked back over to the LRT with a pitstop at Timmie`s for coffee and carried on my merry little way.

The day went on pretty good at work, I was there for an 8 hour shift today and everything turned out to be pretty good.  By the end of the day, I was still in a pretty good mood and headed home with a smile on my face and walked part of the way with Sara.

I do have my session still with Jeremy at 11 am tomorrow and so I am going to be doing my stretches pretty soon here and then heading for bed.  I am almost scared to go into the session tomorrow because I really didn`t try too hard this last week and I know that Jeremy will be able to tell.  I think my rear end is severely going to be beaten tomorrow and I can honestly say that I am actually quite excited.  I guess we will see what happens!  :)

Day 311

Alright, not a very good day today, I will admit it.  I was feeling frustrated today and not really wanting to continue on with this journey because I feel that I am not getting any better in regards to having reduced pain.  I know that it will never go away but, I just hate the fact that every day I am feeling it and I just want it to stop.  Somehow I need to deal with it and move on, I just don't know how to do that.

I went to the gym this afternoon for about half an hour.  I did 10 min on the eliptical burning 91 calories and then carried over to the treadmill and wound up burning 133 calories there.  I didn't really push myself because I wanted to get home and make Jan's birthday cake before she got home so that I could get the icing on it in time for dessert.

Once supper was finished, I still wasn't feeling too happy with myself.  Still fairly sore and figured that maybe I should go to the gym again.  So, once again, off I went.  I went into the ladies only room after talking to Jeremy for a few min and got on the treadmill.  I did 15 min there, burned another 88 calories and then went into the main area and did the eliptical for 23 min and burned another 163 calories.  Overall, I guess it was an ok calorie burn for the day.  I kind of wish that I would have just gone, done my hour and push as hard as I could but, at the same time, I guess nothing is stopping me from doing it tomorrow.

I do have a session with Jeremy on Saturday at 11 as we were unable to do yesterday's session.  Maybe I will start feeling a little differently in the next coming week.  Who knows?

I have cleanup to do from supper and then I will be doing my stretches and heading off to bed shortly.  I am unsure if I am able to go to the gym tomorrow as I work from 10:30 until 7, but I may go in the morning before work, both tomorrow and Friday.  I guess since I haven't done much this week in the way of watching what I eat and exercise, I shouldn't be expecting too good of results on Sunday.

Nothing more to say today, not a very positive attitude at the moment.
